POLICE LOG: Alleged Panhandler Arrested on Florida Warrant

The following information was supplied by the North Reading police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is a look at some of the calls handled by the North Reading Police Department from Monday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 18. The information is open to the public.

Monday, July 15

At 7:20 a.m., police received a call about a two-car accident on Main Street. One person complained of minor shoulder pain.

At 11:39 a.m., a person walked into the police station to report a truck leaked fuel from Main Street all the way down Route 62 past the police station. The DPW was notified to clean up the spill. Police are investigating.

At 1:38 p.m., a manager at a Main Street business reported a customer passed a counterfeit bill. Police have identified a suspect and are investigating.

At 7:53 p.m., police received a call about a suspicious man walking through the Riverside Cemetery. The person said the man was walking close to the nearby homes on Swan Pond Road. Police spoke to the man who was paying respect to his parents.

Tuesday, July 16

At 1:22 a.m., an officer spotted possible illegal dumping on Concord Street. The officer found 17 to 18 large dark plastic bags containing household trash.

At 5 p.m., a Lakeside Boulevard resident called police after someone stole his Sony Playstation, controllers and numerous games that are valued at $1,000. The man believes he knows who took the items.

At 7:13 p.m., a Cobblers Lane resident reported rude solicitors who were not registered to solicit in North Reading. An officer spoke to the solicitors and warned them that they will be arrested in the future if they don’t register with police.

At 8:04 p.m., a Swan Pond Road resident reported a suspicious man walking around the Riverside Cemetery.

 

Wednesday, July 17

At 9:04 a.m., a Wadsworth Road resident called police after someone egged his car and dumped mustard on it. Police are investigating.

At 2:30 p.m., police arrested Thomas S. Olenick, 42, 81 West Shore , Patchogue, NY, and charged him on a fugitive from justice warrant. Police responded to Walmart about a man panhandling. An officer found there was a warrant out for the man with full extradition from Florida. Police contacted Florida authorities who asked that North Reading Police hold Olenick. Police notified the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

At 4:20 p.m., a caller reported a dog locked in a car at Walmart. The caller was concerned because of the heat. Police responded, but the car had already left the area. Animal control was notified.

At 9:32 p.m., a Country Club Road resident reported his girlfriend entered his home and stole his Galaxy 4s phone.

At 10:09 p.m., police received a call about a man in the shrubs in front of Stop & Shop possibly exposing himself. Police arrived and did not find anyone who fit the description.
