POLICE LOG: Police Respond to Suspicious People, Loud Motorcycles Calls

The following information was supplied by the North Reading police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is a look at some of the calls handled by the North Reading Police Department from Monday, July 8 to Wednesday, July 10. The information is open to the public.

Monday, July 8

At 10:20 a.m., a man walked into the station to report he found a wallet at Ipswich River Park. Police contacted the owner of the wallet, who is a Reading resident. He picked up the wallet at the station.

At 2:33 p.m., police responded to Lloyd Road concerning a motorcyclist racing up and down the street. An officer spoke to two men and advised them not to operate the motorcycle until it is properly registered.

At 6:49 p.m., police received a report of recreational vehicles behind Town Hall. Police spoke to the riders and advised them that they were trespassing. They left the property.

At 7:16 p.m., police returned to Lloyd Road after a report of a loud motorcycle. An officer spoke to the motorcycle’s owner, who said he was repairing the bike. The officer told the man to not disturb the peace.

Tuesday, July 9

At 7:52 a.m., police responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on Main Street.

At 12:56 p.m., a caller reported someone left a car in a vehicle with no windows open. The dog owner left in the vehicle before police arrived.

At 2:54 p.m., police responded to Foley Drive after a freight truck took down some wires. The Fire Department notified Verizon and police placed cones and tape around the wires.

At 4:10 p.m., a Elm Street resident reported receiving a call from someone saying that someone bought her a computer, but that the company needed her credit card number to pay for delivery. She told the person that she only does COD, which caused the caller to hang up. The woman wanted to inform police of the possible scam.

At 5:35 p.m., a person told police that his cell phone was missing. Police asked the man to notify his service provider.

At 7:41 p.m., a Mount Vernon Street resident called police about solicitors saying they were college students selling magazines so they can pay for college. An officer spoke to them. They said they didn’t know of the town bylaw that they must sign in with police before soliciting.

 

Wednesday, July 10

At 5:32 a.m., police cited a North Reading motorist for speeding on Chestnut Street.

At 3:22 p.m., an officer cited a Wilmington man for speeding on Chestnut Street.

At 11:24 p.m., a Heritage Way resident called police about suspicious activity. She said she saw a suspicious van earlier in the day and when she returned home, her front door was unlocked. Two officers walked through the house and didn’t find any issues. Police think there was an issue with the locking mechanism.
