Police Log: Resident Reports IRS Scam

Monday, April 14

At 8:24 a.m., police responded to a two-car accident on Main Street. Two people were taken to the hospital.

At 11:27 a.m., police received a call from Peabody Court where a utility company reportedly damaged a door.

At 3:01 p.m., police received a call after a car was vandalized on Main Street. Someone threw a rock through a window. Police are investigating.

At 6:25 p.m., a Main Street resident reported that her son fell out an apartment window. Police found the child had pushed the screen and fell about 8 feet. The child received minor cuts.

Tuesday, April 15

At 11:03 a.m., a DPW employee went to the station with a water bottle that contained numerous hypodermic needles, which he found near Park and Main streets. He disposed of the needles in the needle kisok in the lobby.

At 12:05 p.m., a North Reading resident reported that a scammer called him claiming that he was from the IRS. He told the resident there was a warrant for the North Reading man’s arrest and he needed to pay $1,000 to rectify the problem. Police confirmed there is no warrant and that it was a scam.
