Sneaker Purchase Goes Bad for Local Youth

The following is a look at some of the calls handled by the North Reading Police Department from Monday, Aug. 12 to Thursday, Aug. 15. The information is open to the public.
Monday, Aug. 12
At 9:14 a.m., a caller from Kennebunkport, ME, called North Reading police to say that he found a wallet belonging to a North Reading resident in the Maine community. He connected with the North Reading resident in Maine and returned the wallet.

At 2:21 p.m., police received a call from Park Street after someone reportedly stole money from a local juvenile. The caller said he arranged on the Internet to meet someone on Park Street to buy sneakers. However, the suspects reportedly took the money and left without giving the teen the sneakers. Police tracked down the alleged thieves, a 19-year-old from Kingston, a 19-year-old from Halifax and a 16-year-old juvenile, and summonsed them to court with the charges of larceny of more than $250 and conspiracy.

Tuesday, Aug. 13
At 7:52 a.m., police responded to Main Street concerning a man with an object impaled in his abdomen. The man was reportedly assaulted. He was taken to Lahey Clinic. Police are investigating the assault.
Wednesday, Aug. 14
At 11:03 a.m., an officer summonsed a 23-year-old North Reading motorist to court for operating a motor vehicle without a license and speeding. Police pulled over the man at Park and Chestnut streets.
At 3:48 p.m., police received a call after a vehicle was broken into on Main Street. A traffic toll transponder was taken.
At 7:04 p.m., a person walked into the police station and dropped off a wallet that was found on Concord Street. The wallet contained $75 and credit cards. Police notified the wallet’s owner who dropped by the station and picked it up.
Thursday, Aug. 15
At 9:35 a.m., a caller reported someone stole a laptop from his car, which was parked overnight at Ipswich River Park. Police are investigating.
At 11:15 a.m., a person walked into the police station and reported his computer and bank information may have been compromised. Police took a report.
At 4:10 p.m., police responded to Walmart concerning a shoplifting. Police summoned two 16-year-olds for shoplifting merchandise worth more than $100 by concealing and possession of marijuana.
At 4:47 p.m., a caller reported that someone stole a debit card from a vehicle parked overnight at Ipswich River Park. The card was then used twice in Stoneham.
At 9:42 p.m., police received a call from North Street after a motor vehicle struck a deer. The driver was not injured, but the animal was killed in the accident.
