Storm Knocks Down Trees, Closes Down Park Street

Part of North Reading lost power.

The thunderstorms that hit North Reading on Saturday evening knocked down trees and power lines and caused the closure of a major road.

Work crews continued cleaning up downed trees and wires on Park Street West as of 7:15 p.m. Park Street was closed at Park and Concord Street for more than an hour while crews cleaned up the downed trees and wires. North Reading Fire reported “multiple” lightning strikes in that area.

North Reading Fire sounded a box alarm, which brought in off-duty personnel.

An alert sent out by the North Reading Police Department at 7:05 p.m. Saturday said parts of North Reading are without power. Town officials are working with the Reading Municipal Light Department to restore power in those areas.
