Strategies to Combat Severe Weather Impact on Businesses

[eBook] Small business promotional strategies to help cut through the hunker-down mindset of customers consumed by thoughts of the weather

North Reading Marketing Consultant Sharron Senter Launches Raining Revenue™ Small Business Marketing Strategies eBook Series with Book One ... Detailing Tactics to Combat the Severe Weather Impact on Businesses

NORTH READING, Mass. – Marketing Consultant Sharron Senter has created a new small business marketing eBook series called Raining Revenue™. The series addresses issues that greatly impact small business owners and describes realistic and affordable marketing and operational strategies to help overcome obstacles that obstruct small business growth. Raining Revenue™ Book One addresses extreme weather, and is titled: Small Business Marketing & Operational Strategies to Combat Severe Weather: Revenue Retaining Maneuvers for Brick and Mortar Retailers & On-Site Service Businesses. The eBook deals exclusively with operating and marketing a small business during the days immediately before and after severe weather strikes, such as snowstorms, blizzards and hurricanes.

Raining Revenue™ Book One includes operational steps to consider before extreme weather strikes, and promotional strategies to help cut through the hunker-down mindset of customers, consumed by thoughts of the weather, who have severely altered their shopping behavior.

“Severe weather greatly and negatively impacts most small business owners,” said Sharron Senter, Boston-area marketing consultant. “Consider a hair salon owner who earns an average of $125 an hour and has nine appointments scheduled for the same day a massive snowstorm arrives. Because her clients can’t safely get to her, this hairstylist will lose approximately $1125. Now multiply this loss by many more snowstorms and this particular business owner could very well be out of business by the end of the year.”

Survival Strategies for Small Business Owners

“A key survival strategy for business owners is to communicate as much as possible with your customers. Try to remain top-of-mind by acknowledging the severe weather and what you’re doing to continue providing your service. For example, are you offering alternative or expanded hours to make up for missed billable hours? Whatever communications you’re having with customers, it’s imperative to mention the extreme weather because it’s weighing heavily on your customers’ minds. Therefore, if you’re running a sale, align your promotional content with the weather. For example, salon owners could offer a free manicure to clients who keep their scheduled hairstyling appointments during a very snowy week. It’s easy for customers to cancel; the idea is to proactively inspire them not to,” said Senter.

Senter also recommends small business owners use the weather’s remnants as props to advertise their businesses for free. In the instance of snowstorms, she suggests using biodegradable temporary paint or a similar environmentally friendly coloring tool to spread promotional messages on snowbanks.

According to Senter, she has more than 25 years of marketing communications and business operations experience and holds a deep affinity for brick and mortar retailers and on-site services businesses. She spent eight of these 25 years combating the negative revenue impact of snowstorms and blizzards while owning an on-site computer repair service business that included a boutique storefront.
