The home, built in 1720, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Putnam House was at the very foundation of North Reading. In 1717, inhabitants of the North Reading Parish voted to build a new home for a minister. Rev. Daniel Putnam became the first minister of the parish and the first inhabitant of the home.
