Water Restriction Issued for North Reading

Fines are in place for violating the restriction order.

North Reading has declared a Stage 1 mandatory water conservation drought condition effective immediately.

According to an announcement from the town, the record setting dry weather in May as well the start of the lawn watering season have “stressed the water system to its maximum capacity.”

The water conservation drought condition restricts water usage in town as follows:

Lawn watering is restricted to two (2) times per week from 7 p.m.-7 a.m. as follows:

  • Residents with ODD numbered addresses may water lawns on Tuesday and Friday only.
  • Residents with EVEN numbered addresses may water lawns on Wednesday and Saturday only.

Residents with automatic sprinklers should check their settings to ensure compliance. The following penalties are in place for violating the ban:

  • 1st offense – Reminder Notice to the home owners (documented)
  • 2nd offense – $50 fine
  • 3rd offense – $100 fine (daily for each additional offense)

In addition, the town is requesting that residents voluntarily reduce their non-essential water usage including the washing of cars and buildings, etc.
