Why is it So Smoky in North Reading This Morning?

The cold, November morning air in North Reading is filled with the smell of thick smoke as a large compost fire burns on the Tewksbury/Wilmington line on Thursday morning.

The North Reading Fire Department received multiple calls overnight after residents reporting the smell of smoke, but the calls were all associated with the fire that is burning miles away.

The North Reading Police Department said the cold weather is forcing the smoke down to ground level across the town.

Both departments went on Facebook Thursday morning to allay residents’ features that the fire is not in North Reading. 

So there is nothing to worry about this morning despite the smoky air quality.
