Youth Substance Use Prevention Coalition Recognizes Key Allies

The Coalition recognized Dr. Cathy O'Connell and North Shore Printing

The North Reading Community Impact Team’s Youth Substance Use Prevention Coalition recently honored two outstanding community partners whose dedication has strengthened local efforts to prevent youth substance use and promote student wellness.

The Coalition presented its Wellness Champion Award to Dr. Cathy O'Connell in recognition of her years of leadership and commitment to student well-being during her tenure as Middle School Principal. Dr. O'Connell was recognized prior to her departure from the district for her unwavering support of prevention and mental health initiatives.

"Dr. O'Connell has consistently worked to destigmatize the connection between mental health and substance use," said Mental Health/Substance Use Clinician Laura Miranda. "She committed herself and her team to implementing science-based social-emotional wellness education, modeled these principles herself, and led these efforts with passion. We wanted to thank her for her years of dedication to the wellness of her students."
