NORTON, MA — The Norton Public Library is making headlines for its efforts to create a more inclusive environment.
On Tuesday, the library earned the Autism Welcoming Certification through the Autism Alliance, according to a social media post by the town.
The certification recognizes the library's commitment to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for individuals with autism and their families.
To better serve visitors with autism and sensory sensitivities, staff underwent training to improve their skills. The library also recently introduced new Calm Kits, which include noise-reducing ear protection, fidgets, sunglasses to reduce glare and communication cards.
Additional social story resources are also planned for November.
Tuesday's recognition is an example of town employees finding ways to make Norton more welcoming and accessible for everyone.
