HarborOne U®, one of the country’s first centers devoted to financial education, life and career support services and small business assistance, today announced details of a
special “Credit for Life” Fair, designed especially for young adults involved in the Bi-County Collaborative, an organization that offers programs and services to students with low incidence special education needs. The Fair will take place May 17th between 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the U facility in Mansfield. The nationally recognized Credit for Life Fair is a fun financial literacy exercise where students role play the position of 25 year old adults with a career, salary and expenses. The goal is to help students gain a better understanding of their future fiscal responsibilities.
“We are very grateful for our partnership with HarborOne U. Throughout the school year, they have provided our students with valuable information to help them successfully transition from school to adult life,” said Ann-Marie Hershman, Transition Teacher, Bi-County Collaborative. “One of our goals in teaching financial literacy is to help students demonstrate as much independence as possible, when making decisions and managing their own personal finances as an adult. This real-life experience will allow our students the opportunity to generalize and apply the skills that they have learned in the classroom throughout the year.”
The upcoming Fair, designed specifically for this group, will offer the students valuable insight into balancing a budget and making good choices about their finances. Through this partnership, HarborOne U is helping to empower these young adults with the resources and strategies needed to ensure financial independence. HarborOne U currently offers classes twice a month to the Bi-County Collaborative members, tackling such issues as financial literacy, smart shopping, interview/resume skills, networking for jobs and building a classroom website.

“One of the greatest life skills an individual can attain is the ability to successfully manage personal finances,” said Maureen Wilkinson, director of HarborOne U. “Through this exercise of managing their own budget and seeing the actual cost of things, students gain a whole new perspective on real-life financial management.”
