Norton 6th Grade Girls successfully defend Metro West Division 1 Basketball Title

Norton sixth grade girls Division 1 Metro West basketball team just completed a Championship season.  The girls went 3-0 in the play-offs after an 11-1 regular season.  Norton beat Needham 34-22 Sunday on Court 1 at Mass Premier Courts in Foxboro to capture the Division 1 Championship.

 

During their play-off run Norton held their opponents to an average of 18 points, less than ½ of their opponent’s normal scoring average.

The girls defended their 2012 D1 Championship season where they went 15-0 and beat Westwood in the finals.

Consecutive Division 1 Championships is a first time feat for the Town of Norton.  The girls will pick it back up next weekend as they accept their invite to represent the Metro West league in the Massachusetts State Championship (hosted by Mass Premier in Foxboro).  The Girls finished 3rd in the 2012 States.

 

“We have a talented and hard working group of girls along with a committed group of parents which is a great combination” said assistant coach Eric Johnson. 

 

The championship team consists of Kirsten Loring and Kassidy Fields at center, Michelle Belcher and Jacqueline Conroy at power forward, Rachael Johnson at point forward, Christina Phillips at small forward, Minea McGrath and Sara Cross at the two guard and Sarah John and Madi Saba at point guard. Head coach is John Conroy assisted by Eric Johnson and Chris John.
