State Police Marine Unit identify Rachel Collins five miles south of Nauset Light.
The body of Rachel Collins, a graduate and West Warwick, R.I. resident, was recovered in the waters five miles south of Nauset Light yesterday by the State Police Marine Unit.
Collins, 37, was missing for the past several days while State Police, Coast Guard and local police were searching for her. According to The Cape Cod Times, Collins' roommate reported her missing at 12:30 a.m. Sunday after the woman, a psychiatric nurse, failed to show up for her evening shift at Rhode Island Hospital on Saturday. Collins was described as being "distraught" that day.
According to a press release sent out by State Police, at approximately 11 a.m. yesterday, they received a 911 call from a small boat reporting a body floating in the water approximately two miles off Chatham, and about five miles south of the point at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham where the womanβs car had been found several days prior. Troopers recovered the body and transported her to shore. The investigation into her death is ongoing.
