Boston Celtics Honor Purple Heart Recipient
Raynham's Brandon Korona, a combat engineer who was hit by an explosive device in Afghanistan, was recently honored by the Boston Celtics.
BOSTON, MA β The Boston Celtics last week honored a Purple Heart recipient from Raynham. Brandon Korona received the team's "Heroes Among Us" award during Friday's playoff game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Korona served as a combat engineer in Afghanistan and in 2013 his leg was severely injured by an improvised explosive device.

"(Korona) has bravely dedicated his life to protecting our nationβs freedom," the Celtics said in a statement. "Serving as a combat engineer in Afghanistan in 2013, Brandonβs left leg was severely injured when a 200-pound IED struck his armored vehicle."

Korona endured "countless" surgeries and underwent an "Ewing" amputation, an experimental surgery that allows his brain to control a leg prothesis.
