Busy Night for Norton Police

Press release: Arrested man after car chase, 17 underage youths drinking.

It was a busy night for Norton Police Saturday, as they assisted Attleboro Police in a chase and caught 17 youths drinking in the woods.

At 9:30 p.m., Norton Police were notified that Attleboro Police were pursuing a vehicle heading into Norton in the area of Slater Street to Maple Street. The vehicle ultimately turned onto Route 123, turned right onto Pine Street and left onto Plain Street. As the vehicle turned onto Plain Street, Norton patrolman John Chmielinski deployed spike strips across the roadway. The suspect vehicle struck the spike strips and continued on Plain Street, turning left onto S. Washington and stopping a few houses down with flattened tires.

The operator of the vehicle, Davin J. Freitas, 26, of Plainville, exited the vehicle and was placed under arrest by Attleboro Police after a brief foot pursuit. Freitas was transported to Attleboro PD by Attleboro Police.

Β Freitas was charged by Norton Police with speeding, marked lanes violation, operating an unregistered vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police officer and fail to stop-stop sign.

Almost an hour later, at 10:20 p.m., Norton Police received a report of youths entering the wooded area behind Colonial Drive, carrying beer bottles. Officers entered the wooded area and observed several youths in possession of alcohol, next to a small campfire. Identification checks revealed all youths to be under 21 years of age. All 17 youths were placed under arrest and charged with minor in possession of alcohol.Β  All were later released and will appear in Attleboro District Court on various dates during the week of July 11.
