Car Accident Temporarily Shuts Down East Main Street

At 6:18 a.m. Sunday morning, a car driven by Attleboro resident Shane Wilson struck a utility pole in front of the Norton police station.Β 

The vehicle was traveling east on E. Main Street. The vehicle drifted across the westbound lane, traveled off the roadway, and struck a utility pole near a driveway to the police station. The vehicle continued, striking the police station entrance sign, then damaging the front lawn and a floodlight in front of the station.

Β No injuries were reported from the incident, including the 19-year-old driver.Β  That area of East Main Street was closed for approximately six hours while National Grid crews worked to repair the utility pole and wires.Β

The incident remains under investigation by Ptlm. James Cameron.

This isn't the only time the police station has been the site of a car accident. Aug. 31, 2010, an elderly driver attempted to park in a handicap parking space at the station but the vehicle did not stop, striking the side of the building.
