Fatal I-495 Crash: Victim Identified

RAYNHAM, MA — A New Bedford man was killed in a crash on Interstate 495 in Raynham Wednesday morning, police said. The victim was identified as Kevin Lopes, 37.

State police said Lopes was driving a Honda Accord on the northbound side of the highway near Exit 8 at about 7 a.m. when he swerved and slammed into the base of a bridge.

Two off-duty firefighters — one from Attleboro and the other from Wareham — happened to pass by the scene and started CPR on Lopes, who was transported to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
