Good Ol' Fashioned Summertime Fun [VIDEO]

“It’s not summer until they see Java Jive at the library,” said head librarian Lee Parker, whose words originated from past audience members.

 Java Jive kicked off the 2011 summer concert series in the library park Tuesday, playing everything from Motown favorites to current hits.

 “We play a lot of different material, and obviously we are catering to who is here tonight,” said Don Richard who sings and plays the keyboard and trumpet.

 All three members of Java Jive, which also includes Tom Madden and Chuck Garrett, do vocals and play several instruments. They are also known for walking through the audience with a microphone or trumpet in hand to get patrons dancing. According to Madden, this is their eighth or ninth year performing in town.

 Norton Public Library has held summer concerts in the park for the past 12 years.

 “They knew this would be a great space for concerts,” Parker said, noting that past concerts have drawn crowds of up to 200 people.

 “It kind of takes you back to what it used to be like here in America,” Garret said.

 It’s good to see everyone outside. It’s nice to see the families out. That’s what this is all about, summertime.”
