UPDATE: The address is 1 Hawthorne Road, not Juniper as previously reported.
After a fire ripped through a house on Juniper Street Tuesday night, the sole resident of the home was sent to the hospital.
Rose Roberts, 84, was home alone at 5 Juniper when the fire started at approximately 8:40 p.m.
βThe neighbor was able to help the victim out,β said Norton Fire Captain Kevin Schleicher. ββThere was heavy fire throughout the house. The crew did a great job knocking down the fireβ
Roberts was transported to Morton Hospital by Mansfield Rescue. Her condition is unknown at this time. Roberts suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
βShe seemed OK,β Schleicher said.
The blaze took about 20 minutes to knock down with the help of Easton, Mansfield and Attleboro engines. Schleicher said while the house needs to be looked over more closely, it looks like a total loss.
βThere is a lot of heat and fire damage,β he said.
At this time the family is not sure if a donation fund will be set up.
βMy mom is on social security,β said her son, Gary Roberts. βIβm on social security and Iβve been giving her almost all my money to help her, breaking myself and still taking care of my family.β
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by , but Gary believes it may have been an electrical issue.
βI just canβt believe this is happening,β Gary said. βSometimes I donβt believe thereβs a God. Right now Iβm not believing there is.β
