L. G. Nourse Students Blind Spectators With Science

Third graders present projects in science fair.

Grade 3 students at participated in a science fair Thursday and created a “compound machine” invention.

Among inventions were pet feeders, bed makers, floor sweepers, can crushers and more.

“I think the students did an outstanding job on their projects this year,” said principal Danielle Klingaman. “It is always amazing to see the creativity and original ideas that shine through on the third grade projects.”

Simple machines are a unit in the third grade science curriculum. Students complete a template of their design during computer class, then, at home, build their compound machine, create a display board that explains their invention, its purpose and the steps they followed to build it. The teachers grade projects based on a standards-based rubric.
