Norton firefighters rescued a man who drove into the Norton Reservoir.

NORTON, MA β€” Norton firefighters saved a man who drove into the Norton Reservoir Thursday morning. The man, a 51-year-old from Norton, was driving a sport utility vehicle in the area of Smith Street when for an unknown reason he veered off the road and flew over 100 feet into the water, according to Norton police Lt. Todd Jackson.

Minutes after the crash, two Good Samaritans entered the water but were unable to reach the man because he was so far out, Jackson said. Norton firefighters then waded in and pulled the man to safety.

The man was hospitalized and expected to recover.
