NEW BEDFORD, MA — A New Bedford teenager was killed and two men were arrested in a shooting Monday. The victim was Brad Lourenco, 18, of New Bedford. Ivan Fontanez, Jr., 20, and Keeland Rose, 23, also of New Bedford, were arrested and charged with assault with a firearm and multiple gun violations.
The shooting happened at a New Bedford park on South First Street at about 2:30 p.m., according to Bristol District Attorney Thomas Quinn. First responders found Lourenco and transported him to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died later Monday night, Quinn said.
The teen's death is being investigated as a homicide, Quinn said. Fontanez and Rose were also charged with carrying an illegal firearm and illegal discharges of a firearm within 500 feet of a building. They will be arraigned Tuesday morning in New Bedford District Court.
