
Norton Public Schools superintendent Dr. Patricia Ansay announced that Catherine Luke has been appointed as the new L. G. Nourse Elementary School principal.
Luke is from Assonet and most recently was the assistant principal at the Berkley Community School. Luke has lead curriculum committees, performed budget analyses, evaluated teachers, conducted special education TEAM meetings, coordinated the preschool program, served on search committees to hire staff, dealt with student discipline and managed the Full-Day Kindergarten program and NAEYC Accreditation process. She has held this position for four years. Prior to that, she held the position of grade 1 through 4 coordinator for four years and that of a grade 3 teacher for 15 years.
Luke is also a graduate of Norton High.

A site visit was held and teachers reported that Luke is a multi-tasker, has an open-door policy, handles all situations in a calm, professional manner and encourages them to take risks. They added that she can be assertive when necessary. Luke is said to have excellent communication skills and a wonderful rapport with parents, children and staff. All references reported that Luke is certainly ready to assume a principal position and become a top-notch school administrator.
The search committee was comprised of four L. G. Nourse staff, three district administrative staff, three L. G. Nourse parents and a school committee member. Twenty-three applications were received and four candidates were interviewed. Luke was the unanimous choice of the committee, who feels that she will be a good match for the L. G. Nourse School, the Norton community and other district administrators.

Luke will be taking over for Danielle Klingaman, who was principal at Nourse for the last four years.
