Norton Boys Track Looks To Continue Success At Division Meet

Lancers will send 10 student-athletes to the Division 4 State Meet on Sunday.

The boys’ indoor track team will look to carry the momentum from an excellent end to its Tri-Valley League season into the MIAA Division 4 State Meet on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

After beginning the campaign with a 1-3 record, the Lancers won their final four dual meets of the winter, defeating Ashland (73-13), Medway (56-30), Bellingham (75-11) and Millis (77-4) to complete the regular season with a 5-3 record.

Norton then put forth several outstanding performances, including a pair of school records, during the TVL Championship Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center on Feb. 6.

Kevin Rogers established a new school record while finishing in second place in the mile with a time of 4:40.33. Ben Donovan also set a new school mark in the 55-meter hurdles, placing third in the event with a time of 8.42 seconds.

Jon Sicard finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.97 seconds, while Tim Johansmeyer was third in the 300 meters in 37.91 seconds. Keegan Campbell placed in two events, finishing third in the 1,000 (2:43.20) and sixth in the high jump (5-8).

Ramzi Bechara placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.65 seconds, while Brian Gannon was fifth in the 55-meter dash in 7.04. Dan Lenihan, Sicard, Campbell and Lapadula also teamed up to finish in fourth place in the 4x400 relay in 3:48.79.

Following the completion of the league season, the team earned the TVL Sportsmanship Award. Campbell, Johansmeyer, Rogers and Sicard were also all named to the Tri-Valley League All-Star Team.

Campbell was Norton’s MVP during the regular season, leading the team in scoring with a total of 81.5 points. Sicard is second in points with 67.5, while Rogers is third with 53.5 and Donovan is fourth with 33 points.

The Lancers will send 10 members of their team to the Division 4 State Meet on Sunday. Campbell has qualified for the meet in the 1,000, high jump and 4x400 relay, while Donovan has qualified in the 55-meter hurdles.

Sicard has qualified in the 55-meter dash and the 4x440 relay with Rogers qualifying in the mile and 4x4. Bechara qualified in the hurdles, while Mason Roulliard has earned a spot in the mile event.

Brian Acker was one of the qualifiers in the 4x400 relay, while Shawn Ferrini will take part in the shot put competition. Gannon qualified in the 55-meter dash and Johansmeyer has earned spots in the 300 meters and the 4x400 relay.

The top three finishers overall in each event during the division meet next Sunday will advance to the MIAA All-State Meet, which will be held Friday, Feb. 25 at the Reggie Lewis Center.
