Norton Enhanced Spring Water Flushing Program
Norton will be attempting to remove many years of iron and manganese sediment from its distribution system this spring.
As previously discussed this first flushing program with the New Water Treatment Facility online will be aggressive. Our flushing crews will be attempting to remove many years of iron and manganese sediment from our distribution system.
This approach will be noticeably different from the βusualβ uni-lateral flushing program. We will operate two separate flushing crews in different areas of town using our booster pumps to move water from our ground storage tanks. This will flush the larger water mains and we will cover large areas of town with multiple flushing sites that can handle the discharge of large volumes of water.

Once these large water mains are flushed we will transition to the smaller water mains.During these operations as with past flushing programs, residents can and should be prepared to experience changes in water pressure and quality. These flushing operations will be mainly performed during the evening hours to limit the disturbances and disruptions to the customers. Should any area experience any lingering effects they will be addressed by less aggressive flushing during the daytime.
Please remember Norton has a looped distribution system, operating gate valves and flowing hydrants can change the βnormalβ direction of water and create a disturbance in an area away from the actual flushing. We operate the water gate valves to limit the amount of wasted water and create a uni-lateral flush. Doing this is the best and quickest approach to clean the distribution system.Beginning Wednesday, April 29th
