Norton Girl Kidnapped, Police Say

Avery Howard, of Brockton, was charged with kidnapping a 6-year-old Norton girl Friday, police said.

NORTON, MA β€” A 32-year-old Brockton man kidnapped a 6-year-old Norton girl Friday, according to police. Avery Howard was arrested in Easton and the girl was found safe. His intentions with the girl were unclear, police said.

The girl, who was not named, went missing from her East Main Street residence Friday around noon. At about 2 p.m., witnesses in Easton said they saw Howard with the girl as he drove a dark-colored sport utility vehicle. An officer in the area pulled the vehicle over, rescued the child and took Howard into custody.

"The Norton Police Department is very glad this ended safely," police said in a statement. "We do not know at this time what the driver’s intentions were and that is still under investigation."
