The State Cup tournament is one of the most prestigious club soccer tournaments in Massachusetts. The winner of each age/gender division is declared the State Champion and goes on to represent Massachusetts in the US Youth Soccer Region 1 Championships in Barboursville, West Virginia. Current and former Norton residents Amanda Britko, Haley Elliott, Maddie Fong, Jackie Ireland, and Sarah Veglas were members of the U17 Nova Premier Soccer team that capped an undefeated tournament run by beating South Shore Select 2-1 on Sunday June 6th to win the State Cup championship. In this game, Haley Elliott scored the first goal for Nova on a great individual effort while Maddie Fong scored the game winner with 5 minutes left on a perfect one-timer off of a cross by Elliott. Elliott had an exceptional tournament being named game MVP and also scoring two goals in the semifinal game. Amanda Britko played sensational defense in the middle and continually saved the day, often as the last defender.
