Norton High School Parent Advisory Board will hold a discussion about new age drugs lead by Marilyn Edge, director of the Alcohol and Tobacco Prevention Team.
The meeting will be held at the auditorium 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Edge has the most current information on new tobacco and alcohol products that are on the market and available at some convenience stores. She is also able to educate parents with regard to new "bath salts" and "designer Internet drugs” that have been featured on the Dr. Oz Show and various news broadcasts.
“The problem with them is because they do not have to be purchased from a drug dealer, some kids think they are safe. They are not,” explained Kathleen Stern, co-chair of the Norton Parent Board. “Some kids after one use are mentally incapacitated for life.
“The parent board feels this is very important information for parents to be aware of because there are products available to young adults and students that can be harmful, yet parents may be unaware of how to identify these convenience store items,” said Parent Board member Marie O’Malley. “As a parent, it is important to know what children may be exposed to and able to obtain.”
This meeting is for parents only. For more information email NortonHighPAB@yahoo.com.
