Norton High Valedictorian, Salutatorian Chosen

Student representatives on School Committee selected.

Norton High School seniors Elizabeth A. LaVerghetta and Kady Ferguson were chosen as the valedictorian and salutatorian respectively for the Class of 2012.

“I am very proud of all the graduates of the Class of 2012. I’m particularly happy that we have two very strong young ladies who are number one and number two in the senior class,” Norton High School principal Raymond Dewar said.

LaVerghetta is attending Bates College in the fall and will be a double major in biology and medieval studies. LaVerghetta is the only female on the school golf program. She also participates in winter track and softball. She belongs to six honor societies and is the president of the Art Honor Society.

Ferguson will attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute and hopes to be a nuclear physicist. She a member of six honor societies, the president of the Science Honor Society and vice president of the Mu Alpha Theta National Math Honor Society. Ferguson is also the vice president of the Student Council.

“I’m just amazed at all you girls have done,” said School Committee member Beth McManus.

“We very happy and are very proud we have both of these young ladies represent the school at graduation as speakers,” Dewar said. “I’m really proud to have the opportunity to work with them. They make me proud, every day.”

Ferugson and Student Council president and fellow senior Sara Pisdadian also passed the torch as student representatives on the School Committee to Bryce McCarthy and Tyler McNeill Monday.

The Norton High Class of 2012 graduation will be 7 p.m. June 8 at Comcast Center.
