Norton High Wrestlers Beat Newton North and Plymouth North

The following is a press release from Norton High School's Head Wrestling Coach Patrick Coleman.

The Norton High wrestlers have much to be proud of having beaten Newton North 46-22 and Plymouth North 46-18 before falling to North Attleboro 39-36 in a challenging quad meetSaturday.  This was the Lancers first-ever victory over the Newton North Tigers and sweet revenge for last year's loss to the Plymouth North Eagles.  Norton went all out against a strong North Attleboro team and held a 36-33 lead after the wrestling ended but gave the Rocketeers the win on a forfeit in the final match.
Norton got off to a great start on the day against Newton North winning 8 of 11 matches wrestled with pins by sophomores Ahrayah Saintius and Mike Travers and seniors John Norton and Matt Pelletier. Junior Jack Cuneo along with seniors Cam Hale and Scott Coleman earned victories by decision as did sophomore Myles McAlpine in overtime.  Senor Brett Gallagher and sophomore Alek Donovan won by forfeit.
It was a similar story against Plymouth North as the Lancers won 7 of 11 matches wrestled.  Pins by Hale, Royle, Travers, Jack Cuneo, Donovan and senior James Cuneo along with a decisionby Coleman and forfeits to Gallagher and junior Stephen Hudson accounted for the scoring.
For the second consecutive year, Norton won more matches wrestled than local power NorthAttleboro only to fall short on the scoreboard, this time by a mere 3 points.  The Rocketeers got offto a fast start with pins in the first two matches, but the Lancers came roaring back with four winsincluding pins by Norton and Coleman, a major decision by Hale and a tech fall by Royle.  A come-from-behind decision by North Attleboro gave the Rocketeers momentum, but Travers' pin followed byJack Cuneo's win put Norton ahead 30-15.  The experience of North's upper weights was evidentas they pinned the next three Lancers to go ahead 33-30.  Hudson's pin in the last bout put Norton aheadagain but to no avail as Norton's forfeit in the last weight class gave North Attleboro a hard-fought victory.
On a bright note, senior co-captain Scott Coleman broke Eric Lane's school record for most career wins.  Coleman now has an impressive 113 victories!  Sophomore Mike Travers leads the team witheight pins and is still undefeated as are Coleman, Hale, Jack Cuneo, and McAlpine.
Meanwhile the Lancer JVs are off to a good start with three wins and no losses.  Jared Marvel, JT Taylor,Brett Pike, Branden Pike, and Robbie Butler remain undefeated while Grant Monast, Willy Bechara, Jared Shute, Nick Cardone and Brandon Deal have all won matches.
Both varsity and JV teams traveled to Holliston on Wednesday evening to face the defending Tri-Valley League champions in what promises to be an exciting showdown.  JVs start at 6:15, varsity at 7:00.
