Norton Man Arrested for OUI

Driver struck utility pole on Reservoir Street, shutting it down for one hour last night.

On May 6 at 11 p.m., responded to the area of 39 Reservoir St. for a report of a motor vehicle accident.

A caller reported that a motor vehicle struck a utility pole. Upon arrival, officers observed a motor vehicle in the roadway with heavy front end damage and a utility pole sheared off at the base, hanging on the wires. No injuries were reported.

The operator of the vehicle, James LaVita, 44, was placed under arrest by Ptlm. Thomas Durden and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. LaVita was released and will appear in Attleboro District Court on Monday, May 9.

Reservoir Street in the area of #39 was closed for approximately one hour.
