Norton Officer Bitten By Pit Bull: Police
A police officer responding to a report of a person bitten by a pit bull was attacked by the dog Monday, police said.

NORTON, MA β A Norton police officer was injured by a pit bull Monday afternoon while responding to a report that the dog had bitten another person, police said. The officer was called to a Union Road residence after a pit bull had reportedly gone through a wire fence into the neighbor's yard and bitten the owner of a smaller dog.
The owner's wound did not require immediate medical attention, police said. Animal Control was notified and the dog was set to be quarantined.
As the pit bull was brought out on a leash, the dog overpowered its owner and attacked the officer, biting him and latching onto his forearm, according to police. The officer was "bleeding profusely" and wrapped the wound in a tourniquet. He was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and later released.
