Norton Special Town Meeting Postponed For Saturday Due To Weather

The outdoor town meeting planned for the Norton football field has been continued until Sept. 26 due to a thunderstorm threat.

NORTON, MA β€”The Norton Special Town Meeting planned for Saturday on the Norton High football field has been postponed due to a threat of thunderstorms.

The meeting has been continued until Sept. 26.

"The town's sound vendor has indicated that they are uncomfortable with placing their equipment outdoors under such circumstances," said Town Moderator Walter Eykel on Friday.

Eykel said the meeting could not be moved indoors due to coronavirus concerns where people would be properly spaced.

"Significant planning was taken to hold this meeting outdoors, and the intent of that decision was to provide voters a way to attend town meeting without having to choose between their health or participating as a member of the legislative body of the town."

The Sept. 26 rain date will also be scheduled for outdoors on the football field, weather permitting.
