Norton Track Edges out Dover-Sherborn in Girls' Meet, Boys Win by 58 Points

The Norton boys' team won 97-39 while the girls squeaked out a 68.5-67.5 victory.

If the Norton Lancers’ track and field teams were tired going into their third meet in four days against Dover-Sherborn, they certainly didn’t show it as the boys’ team won 97-39 and the girls squeaked out a 68.5-67.5 victory.Β 

Kevin O'Leary led the boys team which a strong day, picking up 15 points with wins in the 100 (15.4), javelin (161’4”), and high jump (5’6”).

In the jumps, Dan Rafuse picked up another win in the triple jump, leaping 42’6.5”. In long jump, Josh Kelleher, Zach Sicard -, and Paul Schleicher swept the event to give the Lancers nine extra points.

Freshman Justin Ireland took the 200 with a time of 24.0 that also qualifies the young sprinter for the Division 4 meet later this season.

Max Marcotte pulled away in the mile, winning by eight seconds with a time of 4:53.4. Later in the two-mile, Billy Sullivan earned a Division 4 meet qualifying time, winning the race in 10:31.4

In the girls meet,Β  Bekah Sargent earned a draw for third in the 200 that turned out to be the difference in the meet.

With the Raiders sweeping the 2-mile and winning the 4x400 relay, the half point was the difference for a Lancers team that needed to fight for every point.

15 huge points for Norton came from Kassidy Campbell with wins in the 400 hurdles (73.5), 100 hurdles (16.6), and long jump (14’11.5).Β 

In addition sweeps in the 110 hurdles and the high jump kept the Lancers in the meet despite the strong performance in the distance events by the Raiders.

Needing a strong performance in the throws, Shannon O'Rourke’s win in the discus (90’1.5”), Marisa Amato’s first place finish in the javelin (93’10”), andΒ  Amy Pereira’s victory in the shot putΒ  (32’6”) gave the Lancers the extra boost needed to beat D-S.

The Lancers will enjoy some well deserved rest before returning to competition on April 17 at the ABCD meet at Bishop Feehan High School.
