Norton To Vote On Funding New Town Hall Design: Report
Residents will vote on $1.5 million in spending at the Town Meeting on Oct. 23.

NORTON, MA β Voters in Norton will decide at the Fall Town Meeting whether the town will fund design and oversight of a new town hall and senior center, the Boston Globe reported. The $1.5 million in spending would be taken from a building fee paid by Cambridge-based pharmaceutical company Alnylam, which plans to build a manufacturing facility in Norton.
The town hall building was constructed in 1907 and converted to town hall 1978. The senior center dates back even further; according to the Globe, the building was built on Bay Road in the 1880s, moved to West Main Street in the 1940s and converted to the senior center in the 1970s.
If funding for the design is approved, residents will next be asked to vote on approximately $12 million in funding for construction once the design is complete. The Fall Town Meeting is Monday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Norton High School auditorium.
