Pedestrian Struck on West Main Street

The Norton resident was seriously injured in the accident.

On Monday, Dec. 15, at 5:41 p.m., Norton police and fire personnel responded to the area of 159 West Main St., for a report of a pedestrian accident. Multiple callers informed the dispatcher that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on West Main Street.

Franklin Bernard, age 49, of 159 West Main St., Norton, was in the westbound lane of travel when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound, operated by Dawn Jacob, age 47, of Norton. Bernard was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by the Norton Fire Department for serious injuries.

No charges have been filed.

The incident remains under investigation by Norton Patrolman Kevin Schleicher Jr, Detective Lieutenant Thomas Petersen Jr, Detective James Franco, as well as members of the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

That area of West Main Street is not well-lit and contains no crosswalk. The road was heavily traveled with rush-hour traffic. The westbound lane of travel was closed for over three hours while crews investigated the incident.
