School Committee Quick Notes for Jan. 23 Meeting
Budget on track, Town Meeting article drafts voted on.

- $2,439 was transferred from the supervisor’s salary and medical therapeutic line to purchase equipment and materials at , and Schools.
- $3,200 was transferred from the special education professional line to the substitute line at the high school.
- Micaela Morin of Norton High School proposed a secondary level sculpture class. The Committee approved her request, which will not require the purchase of textbooks.
- The Committee voted to submit four articles for Town Meeting to selectmen in draft form. These include a transfer of $100,000 from the insurance account for the gymnasium floor at Henri A. Yelle Elementary School, $539,000 to cover the cost of repairs needed at , network switch replacement to cost $110,000 in the middle school and air conditioning and ventilation system at Solmonese to cost $95,000.
- Interview questions were discussed at the second meeting in the search for a new superintendent of schools. Applications are slowly coming in, with Feb. 17 as the deadline to submit them. The next meeting will be held Jan. 30.
- With a total of $22.5 million to work with on this year’s budget, $9.3 million has been spent and $12.3 million is encumbered. This leaves a balance of $840,000. Half of this will be spent on tuition line, and another $100,000 will be spent on special education transportation. Items that will be watched as the year progresses are heating, snow removal, building projects and substitutes.
- The 90 percent construction documents are being reviewed. The sewer connection will be done before the addition is started.
- In personnel, there have been two retirements and one appointments.
- A bullying program will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Norton Middle School. In the next few months, Norton Police Department will also be providing programs at the school to help eradicate bullying.
- A budget workshop meeting will be held Jan. 28
