Taunton Fire: 2 Hurt, 14 Homeless
Taunton firefighters extinguished a large fire at a High Street apartment building Friday, April 7, 2017.
TAUNTON, MA β An elderly couple were injured and 14 were left homeless following a large fire at a Taunton apartment building Friday morning. The fire broke out at 219 High Street at about 4 a.m., according to Taunton fire Chief Timothy Bradshaw. The fire appeared to have originated from the basement, officials said. The cause is under investigation.
Bradshaw said smoke detectors alerted residents to the fire.
βWeβre thankful that the home had working smoke detectors, which absolutely contributed to saving the lives of all the residents inside,β Bradshaw said in a statement.

An elderly man and woman suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and transported to Morton Hospital, officials said. A firefighter was evaluated for injuries at the scene and released.
