Virginia Earthquake Rocks the East Coast
The 5.9 scale quake was felt as far north as Boston.

At approximately 1:51 p.m., a 5.9 scale earthquake hit the East Coast, centered in Virginia.
Β Reports of tremors came in from as far north as Boston.
Β The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake happened at 1:51 p.m. with an epicenter nine miles south of Mineral, VA and had a depth of 1 kilometer.

Β According to reports from the New York Times and other media outlets, the White House, Capitol building and Pentagon were evacuated due to the quake Tuesday afternoon.
Β Lieutenant Todd Jackson said he was not aware of any effects from the earthquake in town.

Β Most people on the Norton Patch Facebook page said they did not feel the tremors. Catherine Clorite Carr, however, did.
Β βDefinitely felt it for 10 seconds in Norton. That's the strongest I've ever felt here,β she said.
