NORTON, MA — A 22-year-old Wheaton College student was arrested Thursday following what police said was her sixth incidence of starting a fire in a campus hall. Janelys Pimentel, 22, was arrested after an investigation into the sixth fire in McIntyre Hall since Nov. 28. Norton fire and police responded to a fire on the third floor around 3:30 a.m. Students were evacuated and the fire was extinguished. Police said they identified Pimentel as a suspect and, after unspecified statements she made during an interview with detectives, was arrested and charged with two counts of arson (from fires on Dec. 2,) four counts of wantonly injuring real and personal property (from fires on Nov. 28, Dec. 2, Dec. 14 and Feb. 7) and six counts of vandalism. Prosecutors said she admitted to the fires after being caught on video.The college has suspended Pimental. No one was injured during the fires. Pimental will be arraigned in Attleboro District Court.
