Wheaton's Gusovsky, Jensen to Play in College All-Star Game

Dan Gusovsky, a senior catcher, and Eric Jensen, a senior shortstop will be playing iin the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association tonight in Lowell.

Senior catcherΒ Dan GusovskyΒ (Andover)Β and senior shortstopΒ Eric JensenΒ (Gorham, N.H.)Β have been selected to play in the 39thΒ Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game on Monday, June 3, at 7 p.m. in Lowell at LeLacheur Park.

LeLacheur Park is home to the New York-Penn League Lowell Spinners, the Class A Short Season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.Β  The gates will open at 6 p.m.and tickets will cost $5.Β  The game is expected to start at approximately 7 p.m.with a pre-game awards ceremony at 6:30.

Counting Gusovsky and Jensen, the Wheaton baseball program has now had 18 of its student-athletes selected to play in the NEIBA All-Star Game.Β Jensen, the 2013 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year, Β hit .373/.437/.485 in 44 starts at shortstop this season with a team-high 41 runs scored, 14 doubles, one triple, one home run, 31 runs batted in, 11 walks and 18 stolen bases. A three-time NEWMAC All-Conference selection, Jensen ranks first all-time in program history in assists (619) and third in runs (164), hits (247) and stolen bases (66).

Gusovsky posted a slash line of .326/.396/.396 in 40 starts behind the plate for Wheaton (42 games total) to go alongside 15 runs, ten doubles, 32 RBI, 13 walks and two stolen bases. Gusovsky batted .359 (23-for-64) with runners in scoring position and .333 (18-for-54) with two outs. The senior backstop knocked in a team-high 23 RBI with two outs in an inning on the season and finished second on the team overall in RBI (32). Overall in his career, Gusovsky ranks 13thΒ all-time in doubles (38), 18thΒ in games played (143) and 19thΒ in games started (133).

The Lyons posted their ninth-straight 30-win season this year with a 32-12 record and 11th overall in program history. Wheaton captured its 14th New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season crown in the 15-year history of the league and its 13th NEWMAC championship.

Division III Senior All-Stars, will face the University Division squad consisting of Division I All-New England First and Second Team players.Β  The University Division team leads the all-time series, 23-12-2, after posting a 5-3 victory in last year's contest.Β  The 1981 game was played East vs. West.
