5 Things You Need to Know Today, Aug. 2

Here's what you need to know in the Tanner City today.

Today is Thursday, Aug. 2. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Today's weather: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mostly cloudy with a high near 84 degrees.
  2. Hungry for Appreciation Day: One fan who attended the Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day yesterday at the Northshore Mall, sent in a photo and shared the following thoughts on the blog Power Line. "Figured you would like to see this photo – having lived in the South, I know Chick-fil-A very well. I don’t eat fast food often, but decided after reading your post to go the local store at the in Peabody, MA. Needless to say, the line was at least 150 people deep – if you look at the attached photo, you will see the Chick-fil-A symbol on the left hand edge of the photo. People of all races, business folks, families alike on line – all saying what the mayor of Boston has said is just plain wrong – and they wanted to show their support," wrote Chris E.
  3. The 15-year-old Peabody all-stars representing the Tanner City's Babe Ruth league in the New England Regional Tournament starting on Friday are rarin' to go. They haven't lost a game yet and do have a state title. Peabody opens tournament play against Waterford, Conn. at 10 a.m. at Adams Field in Quincy.
  4. "Gwendolyn the Graceful Pig" dances at the Peabody West Branch Library on Aug. 13 along with some backup from ballerinas from the North Shore Performing Arts Center. The fun starts at 11 a.m. Author David Ira Rottenberg will read his picture book while the dancers perform the story. There will also be a mini-movement lesson for children in the audience after the performance and Rottenberg will sign copies of his book. The event is free.
