Today is Friday, Aug. 3. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.
- Weekend weather: Some heavy rain in the forecast today and tonight between 4 and 10 p.m. amid 90-degree temperatures. Saturday and Sunday should see more of the same with highs in the mid to upper 80s.
- Babe Ruth baseball: Double elimination round robin play begins this morning (10 a.m.) in Quincy for Peabody Babe Ruth baseball against the Waterford, Conn. All-Stars. The winner goes on to play either Coventry, R.I. or Portland, Maine on Saturday while the loser drops into the loser's bracket and would also play the next day.
- Party for the animals: A neighborhood block party over at 19 Jefferson Rd. on Saturday won't just be having fun between noon and 11 p.m., some of the neighbhorhood youngsters will be holding a bottle and can drive as well to raise funds to donate to the Northeast Animal Shelter on behalf of pets in need.
- Saturday market: The runs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the library courtyard on Main Street.
- Lee Hawkins Band Sunday: The Lee Hawkins Band performs this Sunday at the from 6-8 p.m. The concert was rescheduled from last weekend due to rain.
