
Today is Monday, July 16. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.
- The ride ended for Peabody West softball junior and senior all-star squads this weekend in Worcester at the state finals. The juniors fell in two games straight to Charlton (6-1 and 11-7) while the seniors succumbed to Westfield (19-6 and 9-3).
- On the baseball front for Little League, Peabody West 11-year-olds begin their sectional tournament Wednesday in Gloucester against Wakefield American, while it's off to the state tournament for the 10-year-olds.
- Meanwhile in Babe Ruth baseball, the 15-year-old all-stars knocked off Revere Saturday for the District 1 Championship, 5-3, and are on to the state finals. The opening game is Friday (5:30 p.m.) at World Series Park against host Saugus.
- Chomps and some of the North Shore Navigators will be at the Tuesday to meet and greet with kids during the free , which is run in partnership with Haven from Hunger. The special guests should arrive around noon.
- Tuesday night is the last City Council meeting before summer recess. The meeting agenda will be posted online along with the agenda here for the Legal Affairs Committee meeting preceding the regular session at 7:30 p.m.
