Today is Monday, July 2. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.
- Two district titles for Peabody Little League softball? It's certainly shaping up that way, as the junior all-stars from Peabody West take on Salem tonight (5:30 in Salem) for the District 16 Championship. The Peabody majors squad . The senior all-stars begin their tournament July 9.
- The Nationals are the only ones left standing now for Peabody in District 16 Little League competition. Normal powerhouse Peabody West lost a rare game to the Nats early on, then went 0-2 Sunday in the double elimination tourney, losing to Wyoma. Peabody American, meanwhile, lost its initial game with Saugus National and then fell to East Lynn on Saturday. The Nationals, after losing to Saugus American on Friday, play tonight against East Lynn at Wyoma (5:45).

- The City Council asked public safety officials Thursday night to draft a proposal for a new city parking ordinance for residents in weather-related emergencies. The council has done away with the annual winter parking ban and is working on instituting an emergency ban in its stead using those blue lights. .
