Today is Tuesday, July 24. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Today's weather: Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this morning, and some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 50 percent chance of precipitation, but otherwise, the skies should be partly sunny and a high today near 90 degrees.
  2. Farmers market: The Tuesday market is open today from 2-7 p.m. at the . Stop on by to check it out.
  3. If you're a senior and it's difficult to walk all the way to the market, you're in luck, the city is offering a free shuttle service from 10 senior housing sites over to the Leather City Common. A Council on Aging van will begin its route at 4 p.m., stopping to pick up riders at Rockdale Park, Eastman Park, Bresnahan Park, Peabody House, Fairweather Apartments, Connolly Terrace, Penelope Apartments, Wilson Terrace, 103 Central St. and 75 Central St. The van will return all riders to their respective residences after their shopping.
  4. Peabody's best: Voting began yesterday across 25 categories in our Readers' Choice 2012 contest -- vote on your favorites from to in the Tanner City.
  5. With three straight wins in the state tournament over Saugus, Winchester and Newton, the Peabody Babe Ruth 15-year-old all-stars are the favorites, heading into the semi-final game Thursday (5:30 p.m.) at World Series Park in Saugus.
