Today is Wednesday, June 27. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. Today's weather: A chance of showers, but mostly cloudy with a high near 77 degrees.
  2. City and state officials plan to break ground on the  this afternoon. Ceremony is at 3 p.m.
  3. Little League baseball: The Peabody National and Peabody West match-up has been moved to this evening, still at East Lynn. It is the first game for both teams in the double elimination tournament. The winner plays again on Friday, same time, same location.
  4. "Leaves of Grass": The holding a four-part "Leaves of Grass Discussion Series." The first meeting will be held Monday, July 9 at 7 p.m. at the Main Library. Harvard University Professor Theoharis C. Theoharis will present this four-part discussion series on Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass," considering what feelings and ideas in the poems, first printed in 1855, have made them so important to poets and readers. Classes will be held July 9, July 23, Aug. 6 and Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. For the first meeting, read the preface to "Leaves of Grass," Books are available at the Main Library. For more information and to register, call 978-531-0100 ext. 10, or

In fact, there's going to be a free class on it July 10: “Downloading Free eBooks and Audiobooks.” The class will be held from 10-11 a.m. in the Young Adult Room of the Main Library.
