5 Things You Need to Know Today, May 29

School budget session, playoffs, concerts and graduation.

Today is Tuesday, May 29. Here are five things to know today in Peabody.

  1. School budget: The School Committee reconvenes in special session tonight at 5 p.m. for before the scheduled public hearing on the 2013 budget June 5. Tonight's meeting will be at the in the gymnasium.
  2. Playoff seedings today: The MIAA plans to announce the tournament seedings for baseball and softball this morning. The playoff schedule is slated to begin later this week. Stay tuned to Peabody Patch for updates.
  3. And speaking of playoffs, the girls' lacrosse team is hosting Arlington Catholic today in a (4 p.m.) while girls' lacrosse travels to North Andover tomorrow night (7 p.m.) for its .
  4. Music, it's elementary: Fifth-graders at the South, Center, West and Welch schools will perform in concert tonight with the All-City Chorus in the high school auditorium (7 p.m.). Fifth-graders at the McCarthy, Carroll, Burke and Brown will then play a band concert with the honors band in the auditorium at Thursday at 7 p.m.
  5. Peabody High seniors: As students return to school today, thus begins the last week of high school for this year's senior class. The senior prom is tonight in Boston, convocation is Thursday evening and graduation is Friday. Stay tuned for graduation coverage this week.
