Peabody Restaurant Extends Opening Amid 'Outpouring Of Love'

The NexMex Thing owner said the restaurant will now stay open past April 30 on Central Street.

PEABODY, MA — The owner of The NexMex Thing in Peabody is extending the operation of the Central Street restaurant amid what he said was an "outpouring of love, support, and kind words from this community" following the closure announcement earlier this week.

Owner Emil Sepulveda said in a social media post last week that the restaurant would be closing after 10 years in Peabody because of the challenges associated with ongoing road work and detours on Central Street.

He said the restaurant would be temporarily moved to Lynn while a new Peabody location is explored.

"After announcing the closing of our Peabody location, we've been overwhelmed, in the best way possible, by the outpouring of love, support, and kind words from this community," he said in a Friday post. "It has meant more to us than we can properly put into words.

"Because of that support, we're grateful to share that we will remain open through Cinco de Mayo, and that day will be our final day of service. We hope to celebrate together one last time on Taco Tuesday Cinco, the same way we've shared so many great moments over the years."

Sepulveda went on to thank city leaders, fellow business owners, and residents for their support over the past decade.

He added that he supports the $20 million Central Street reconstruction project as being necessary for the long-term improvement of the corridor.

"Projects of this scale do come with unforeseen issues and fully understand the scope of this massive undertaking," he said. "We hold no hard feelings, only gratitude for the opportunity to have been part of this city.

"No matter where the road takes us next, we are forever thankful for Peabody, for the memories, and for every single person who walked through our doors."
